I am LOVING learning and implementing the 7 Habits. Not only am I trying to emphasize these here at school with my students, but also with my boys at home. I'm realizing that I only have two years left with my 16 year old so I'm trying to use language like "Put first things first" and "Begin with the end in mind". Hopefully, Mom's words will ring in his ears when he's at college and needing to be independent in these life lessons. :)
The Leader in Me habits have made me a much more intentional teacher regarding a "way of life." The habits are not "rules" for the classroom. They are a way of living. When you reinforce the habits with students, following the rules happens naturally.
The Leader In Me is fun for students AND teachers. It's changing how I teach, how my students learn, and the choices we are all making. I'm super excited to see how we all grow as the year continues!
I am so impressed with the students and their use of the habits as well as their use of the leadership language. I hear students talking to one another about things being a win-win and how they have to sharpen their saw or put first things first. Amazing!
The other day our class was walking up the stair and I heard a little boy tell the boy in front of him, "Are you making a good choice?" I turned around and smiled! I praised him (and so did Mr. A) for looking out for his friend and for being proactive! I ask that question all the time...and it's transferring!! YEAH! I love this program!
Third grade invited Susan Byrnes Health Center to speak to our students yesterday. As the presenter was guiding students to think about their strengths and collaborate during an activity, one student raised their hand to say "we are synergizing, aren't we!" The presenter was genuinely impressed and I was proud they shared their Leader In Me knowledge with members of our community!
